The Greatest Pain in Life

When it comes to the topic “What is thegreatest pain in life?” People always take different views on that question.

當談到“人生何事最痛苦”這個話題時，人們總有不同的看法。

When you ask a 4-year-old child, he mightsay the greatest pain is that his parents refuse to buy him the toys. For some students,failing the exams is the most painful thing. And I think for most people,losing the one they love is the greatest pain. Especially for those who can’tmake things right before the one they love passes away. Or the ones they loveleft without saying goodbye.

當你問一個4歲的小孩，他可能會說父母不給他買玩具是人生中最痛苦的事；而對于一些學生，則認為考試不及格最痛苦。我想對于大多數人來說，最痛苦的事莫過于失去自己所愛的人。尤其是對那些在摯愛死之前沒能彌補一些錯事的人們，或是那些在愛的人們離開前沒來得及說再見的人。

From my perspective, the most painful thingin life is that you never try to do the things that you want just because youare afraid that the result may breakdown you. And this kind of things, I callit pity. As time goes by, the pain of pity become greater, because you’ll neverhave a second chance to try and take risks. And you’ll never know if you made adifferent choice, what kind of life you will have now, because everything endedwith it. You have to live with pities in the rest of your life. I think that isthe most painful thing. So I always convince myself, have a try for the things thatI want even if I know I’m taking risks and it might make me sad. Sadness won’tlast forever, but pity will.

對我而言，人生最痛苦的事莫過于你不敢去做一些你想做卻因為害怕結果會讓你崩潰而沒有做的事。這應該叫做一種遺憾吧。隨著時間的流逝，遺憾帶來的痛苦越發明顯。因為時至今日，你已不再有第二次機會去冒險去嘗試當初不敢做的事。你也無從知道如果當初選擇不同，現在的生活會是怎么樣的。因為所有的事情都結束了。你未來的生活都必須忍受著這些遺憾帶來的痛苦。我認為這是人生中最痛苦的事。所以我常常告訴我自己，即使我知道我在冒險，即使我知道結果會讓我失落傷心，也要嘗試自己想做的事。因為失落傷心總會過去，而遺憾會永遠陪伴著自己。
